2003 - San Calisto Vineyard
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vigneto San Calisto 2003
Offspring of an extraordinarily hot and dry year (two months with no rain and record temperatures of over 35°C), this vintage was certainly the most distant compared to the organoleptic profile of the wines of this parcel. The old arbour manifested all its solid strength in years like this one, where the deep root systems make a difference. The harvest, which was anticipated to early September, gave very sweet but not overly ripened grapes, and this San Calisto is like a great red vintage of the Adriatic Coast. The years of aging in the bottle have highlighted an unexpected longevity.
